THE ILLUSION:    The magician shows that one side of the hot rod has six different colors on it.   He uses either one or two people in the audience to help pick a color, and with one magical shake all of the colors turn to the spectators chosen color.  The magician can show that it changed on both sides.   At his command, the magician can then make the hot rod change back to normal.   Ask Tim for a copy of his version of the trick which allows you to hand out the hot rod for inspection.
